Featured Weddings

Featured below are some of my most recent work as a wedding photographer. I consider myself a wedding photojournalist. I strive to create a balance between a more contemporary, narrative style, and classic wedding photography. Both have their places during the wedding day. And every event is different but the principals and goals are the same: to capture the essence of your wedding day and create a visual narrative that tells your unique story.

I couldn't display every single image, so the complete story for each wedding has been essentially abridged on this website. But what you see is enough to sample the flavor of each wedding and potentially give you an idea of what I am capable of.

Victoria & Robert

Victoria & RobertWhen the sun shines at Roche Harbor Resort it truly is a magical place to get married on San Juan Island. Not only is the scenery beautiful but the resort is very experienced with hosting weddings: over 150 weddings last year. And the nice thing for each couple is that there is only one wedding a day: no worries about wedding parties getting lost or mixed up.

Victoria and Robert were married in the Roche Harbor Gardens, but we chose to spend a little time away beforehand to gather some quintessential island photographs. There are dozens of locations near Roche to choose from, and nothing really says you are getting married on an island than by-the-water shots.

Rachel & Alan

Rachel & AlanEvery wedding I am hired to shoot is important to me. I don't shoot more than a dozen weddings a year, because I don't want it to become a job for me. I get emotionally involved; I love the intensity of a wedding day. I don't have a magic set of shots that guarantees a successful finished product because every wedding is different; and every couple deserves the absolute best creativity on their wedding day.

Rachel and Alan's was one of the weddings where I walked away with a big smile on my face. Two people in love; a simple wedding at their parent's home with everyone involved; and a ceremony that was magical. It's absolutely wonderful to be part of that.

Jenny & Tatum

Jenny & TatumThis is by far my most favourite wedding I've shot to date. What you see here is just a fraction of the time I spent with Jenny & Tatum. The previous day Jenny's family and friends from the UK arrived and I documented the meeting of the two families for the first time. There was a wonderful walk and picnic down by the water, and then the rehersal dinner was outside, up on the bluffs; a pod of whales rolled by, breaching and peck slapping as if to say "congratulations!"

The wedding day was blessed with amazing sunshine, and Jenny & Tatum's ceremony was as a beautiful as it was unique. Foregoing the tradtional "kiss the bride" moment, they elected to dance a tango in from of the wedding party. Truly a special moment to witness and capture.

Jeanne & Sam

Jeanne & SamJeanne & Sam's wedding was fun to shoot. A young couple whose energy and enthuasim for each other shone through from the very begining, it was clear that they wanted a fun wedding to remember. That, and the fact that Sam, and all his Groomsmen, were Australian made for an interesting day's shooting.

For instance, after the wedding ceremony I was setting up tradtional wedding group shots when one of the groomsmen suggested we "stage" a shot of everyone looking over the cliff as if Jeanne had fallen in the water. Certainly I have never been requested to exclude the bride from a photograph before. Well, there's a first time for everything and it certainly made for a funny image. And before I knew it we were doing more unusual wedding photographs: Sam running away, Jeanne reaching for a flask...

Sarah & Eric

Sarah & EricI've been fortunate enough to work with wedding couples who truly are the nicest people in the world. Sarah and Eric fall firmly in that category, and we had a fabulous time over the course of two days documenting their wedding weekend on the island. Eric parent's own one of the smaller islands off Friday Harbor and we spent some time there the day before the wedding getting to know each other.

Sarah and Eric had their wedding cermony at the Lavender Farm, which can be spectacular if the lavender is in mid bloom around July time. The Lavender Farm makes lavender into pretty much everything, from the obvious cosmetics and oils to a rather intriguing lavender lemonade.

Jill & Ben

Jill & BenThe San Juan Islands are the #2 ranking wedding destination in the world. You could choose to have your wedding at the historic Roche Harbor, down on beautiful South Beach, or with 360 panoromic views atop Mount Young. Or if you really want to experience the islands and make your wedding day unique, you could hire Spike Africa and be married at sea.

Spike is a freighting and charter schooner. She combines the functional elegance of the 19th century coastal schooners with unobtrusive touches of modern luxury, and makes a stunning backdrop for a wedding. Jill & Ben were married in a quiet harbor near Lopez, and then we sailed around the islands for the rest of the day. A perfectly elegant way to have a small and intimate wedding.

Cydni & Adam

Jenny & TatumWith a weeklong steady barrage of rain, it looked like that Cydni & Adam's plans for a sunny outdoor wedding at Rosario Resort on Orcas would be potentially washed out. And despite everyone crossing their fingers and every other part of their bodies, the rains still refused to relent. Their enthusiasm not detered by the bad weather, the wedding ceremony was hastily moved inside to the historic Music Room of the Rosario Hotel.

Something you should understand is that even though I am your wedding photographer for the day, I am also a second pair of eyes and hands. I've sewn a button back onto the best man's tuxedo, I found missing bouquets, and helped clear up a broken glass or two; all to make sure your day runs smoothly.

Diana & Greg

Diana & GregDiana & Greg's Wedding Day was unusual in that it spanned two islands; Orcas and Friday Harbor. I shot getting ready photographs and formals at Roche Harbor Resort, which included a touching guitar "serenade" with Greg performing a song he had written for Diana. We then jumped on the interisland ferry and headed to the  actual wedding ceremony.

The Victorian Vallery Chapel is this delightfully intimate private chapel located on Orcas Island. The interior is basked with wonderfully soft light, which stream in through the huge stained glass windows. As a photographer I am always concerned about the lighting inside of the structure you are getting married in, as I try as much as possible to shoot without artifical lighting. The beauty scenery of the islands, means that the majority of the weddings are shot outside.
